Summary

Snail Cousine was made as a game jam project for the Game Jobs Live Fall Game Parade 2021 with the theme; Leave Something Behind. The game was made in 3 days together with fellow students from BUAS.

Project Responsibilities

Concepting

At the start of the game jam we concepted a load of ideas related to the theme of “Leave Something Behind” I came up with the core concept of our game, having to create orders in a kitchen that becomes increasingly hard to move around in due to the slime trail the player leaves behind.

Level Design & SET DRESSING

Level Design

The level design process for the project was a bit more compressed then normal due to the small amount of time available. I couldn’t wait around with the level design until the game was fully functional so the two were developed simultaneously

  • Despite small time frame the level was iterated multiple times throughout the game jam. 
  • Level evolved as the game systems changed. 
  •  Level was developed with set dressing in mind, which was done by me afterwards. 

Set Dressing

Next to designing the level I also did the set dressing and lighting for the level using the models made by our environmental artist. 

  • Used set dressing to work together with the level design, keeping gameplay in mind while selling the restaurant setting. 
  •  Lighting to set the mood and highlight important areas.
  • The game was nominated for best 3D art
  • All set dressing had to be done in the latter half of the last day as the level had to be finished beforehand.
